Why we recommend Pure White shutter

There is a large range of standard colours and stains available along with a custom colour option. However, the colour of your shutters really affects the light coming into your room. They become your main light source, so anything other than pure white will change and reduce light levels in your room.

Match your windows

As the shutters are fitted close to your windows, they should match in colour, and most windows are white. Even if you have different coloured windows, we still recommend a white shutter.

White shutters will normally match the ceiling colour, window sill, skirting board and radiators. Different rooms will be decorated in different colours, so a white shutter will look great in all of the rooms.

Light & space

So we highly recommend choosing pure white, 97% of our customers do. You’ll get so much more light, the feeling of space and light reflecting off the louvres in places that you never had before.

Everybody comments on how much light they get in the room with a white shutter, they are always pleasantly surprised.

Although it’s tempting to go for a modern grey, off white, or stain to match the wood flooring or furniture, it’s still best to stick to pure white.

Must customers agree when they see and hear how much the colour affects the light coming into their room.

Grey shutters

Remember the pictures you see in magazines of coloured shutters are not always real, they are lit with lighting and are not always practical.

Take grey, for example, a very popular colour for decor, but with grey walls, grey sofas or flooring and if you have grey shutters too in front the windows, it’s going to zap the light and not match the decor of other rooms, and it doesn't allow you change the colour in 5 years time.

So, the benefits of having a pure white shutter would be:

  • Lots more light
  • The feeling of more space
  • Adding more value to your property
  • Allowing you to change the wall colour or flooring in the future
  • All your windows will look consistent from the front of the house.

Hinge colour

With white shutters, we recommend a white hinge to match and blend in. Shutters are only opened for practical reasons, so the hinges don’t need to be the main focus. Not all windows have equal panels, so if you put chrome hinges on a 3 sectioned window, your eye will be drawn to the offset hinge in the centre.

Custom colours

Standard colours do not affect the cost, but a custom colour will. It’s important to note that custom colours such as Farrow and Ball, Paint and Paper and Dulux are only colour matched.

They’re not sprayed with the actual paint. Shutters are spray painted, so your colour is just matched in the equivalent spray paint, so an exact match is not guaranteed.

If you do choose a custom colour, remember you’ll need to pick a matching hinge colour too, either a similar colour if there is one available or a standard chrome or brass hinge.
